99% Invisible Live

Ballroom C   Level 3

Gain a greater understanding of the power of story and its applicability to your design during this session, a live version of the award-winning program 99% Invisible with host Roman Mars. 99% Invisible is a public radio show and podcast about design, architecture, and all the thought that goes into things most people don’t even think about. Ira Glass calls 99% Invisible “completely wonderful…entertaining, and beautifully produced.” You’ll hear stories about various objects (buildings, shelves, games, graphics, flags and even parentheses) that have very little in common except they were designed by humans, and how they were designed reveals something important about who we are as thinkers and problem solvers. Even more than aesthetics, story is the universal language of design. We can best communicate the importance of design by zeroing in on the right story; crafting a narrative that awakens curiosity and seduces the audience into caring about the things we make.

3 Main Take-Aways:

  1. Appreciate that story is the universal language of design.
  2. Learn how telling the right story will inspire your audience to care about the things you care about.
  3. Whenever possible, use music!
