Designing Around Deadlines, Without Clients, and Other Backstories of MagazinesRoom 304-306   Level 3
Learn how to embrace the challenges of a fast-paced environment that can change on a dime with help from Caleb Bennett, the former Deputy Art Director of the New York Times Magazine. Magazine work can often call for heightened focus and decisiveness on a daily basis. The uncertainty and timeliness of content often dictates the direction for particular stories and amounts to added pressure. Staff members must learn to collaborate and adjust quickly to change. While it can be pressure-packed, magazines provide a wide variety of experiences that challenge designers in various ways and allow for a ton of fun in the process. Daniel will be talking through the obstacles and triumphs of that environment and how to embrace each challenge.
3 Main Take-Aways:
- Learn to be decisive yet push boundaries while maintaining your brand.
- Fight for your right to design. A designer’s voice can be just as strong as an editor’s.
- Find out how to collaborate with the best creatives in the industry and take your work to the next level.
