HOW Design Conference

Thursday, May 15

11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Learn by Doing and Have Fun Doing It

Auditorium   Level 2

Jim Krause has been in the design biz for over thirty years, and he wants to share what he’s learned about keeping things fresh and fun.

Once a designer gets good, they also start to get busy. And once busy, the hefty demands of deadlines, budgets and clients start to eat away at the enjoyment that drew most of us to this profession in the first place: the enjoyment of making stuff. And once that happens, designers start to lose interest in their chosen career and things often spiral downhill from there.

The answer? Carve out niches of extra-curricular time for enjoyable hands-on art, design and photography activities—projects that will sharpen your current strengths, develop new skills and satisfy your craving to make stuff just for you and just for fun. Many of the activities described in this session have been borrowed from Krause’s new book, D30: Exercises for Designers.

3 Main Take-Aways:
  1. A whole bunch of interesting and fun creative projects that you can do alone or with friends
  2. Numerous ways of developing design and art skills on your own time—and just the kinds of things that watching TV can never do for you
  3. Activities that will help populate the walls of your home and office with amazing art made by YOU
